Oudenos is built so that people can talk without revealing who they are. This page explains what we store and why.
What we store
For everyone: a random anonymous ID with its avatar color, a session cookie and the messages of your chats. For accounts: your email, username, display name and a hashed password; if you sign in with Google or Facebook, the name and email address they share with us. For rate limiting and abuse prevention we only use keyed hashes of IP addresses. As Turkish Law No. 5651 requires, we also keep an encrypted access log of key actions (such as sending a message or signing in) with the IP address, port and time. It is kept for one year and only opened when a court or authority lawfully requests it.
How anonymity works
Profile owners only see the random ID and avatar of the people who write to them. We never show them your name, email, IP address or other chats. Moderators can see reported conversations to handle abuse.
Cookies and local storage
We use two strictly necessary, httpOnly cookies: one keeps your anonymous identity, the other keeps you signed in. A backup recovery key, your theme and your language are stored in your browser. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep data
When you delete a chat, it disappears for you right away. Its messages are permanently erased once both people have deleted it, or when the profile owner deletes their account. Reported messages are kept while the report is reviewed and for up to one year after. Unused anonymous IDs are removed after 90 days of inactivity, expired sessions are deleted automatically and access logs are deleted after one year.
Your choices
You can block and report anyone, delete chats, turn off new messages and delete your account at any time in Settings.
